As a Filipina-Australian living in Scotland with access to Edinburgh natives whether I look left or right in the YOURGB office, it would simply be irresponsible for me to not share the team’s recommendations. The list below goes beyond the festive period and spills over to the wee winter months of 2025. WE like to plan ahead!
So without further a do, I present to you the ultimate winter guide to getting out of your house and overcoming the seasonal blues.
Here are some must-do activities to add to your winter bucket list:
St James Quarter Pop Ups
St James Quarter has a jam packed schedule for the winter months and we are here for it!
The Quarter will be filled with the ‘Sounds of the Season’ on Thursday 5th December, as it plays host to an evening of live music performances including some festive Jazz vocals from Marianne McGregor and Soul & Disco with a Christmas twist from Groove Down Band.
And for those born into the wrong era, SJQ is showcasing a ‘Bridgerton’ themed Christmas! On Sunday 15th December enjoy performances from award-winning string quartet, and Bridgerton Ballerinas who will join the Quartet for a spectacular performance. They will also be inviting guests to take part in a Bridgerton-themed dance class suitable for all ages. Need I say more!?
Lastly, in support of the Quarter’s charity partners, Edinburgh Women’s Aid and Health in Mind, gift wrapping stations will pop up on the weekend of the 21st and 22nd of December. Your gifts will be beautifully wrapped by professional Gift Wrappers, in exchange for a donation to these wonderful charities.
Cinderella Panto
The YOURGB team is big on Christmas cheer, especially pantomimes! Our very own Rachael (Creative Coordinator) and Finlay (Manager) have graced the stage in past productions. So, naturally, we couldn’t miss Cinderella at the Festival Theatre. The cast was absolutely fantastic, keeping both kids and adults entertained with hilarious antics and catchy tunes. Tickets to their performance are still available, so go check them out!
Christmas at the Botanics
No winter in Edinburgh is complete without a visit to Christmas at the Botanics. As the sun sets, the gardens transform into a magical wonderland of twinkling lights, festive displays, and delicious treats. It’s the perfect place for a romantic evening, a family outing, or a fun night out with friends. Don’t miss the chance to stroll through the illuminated trails, sip on hot chocolate, and soak up the festive atmosphere. You will need to prebook tickets, so get on that ASAP as they are a hot selling fast!
