The Health & Wellness Era: A Focus on Movement and Mindfulness

There’s no doubt that in recent years, we’ve seen a significant shift in how people approach personal health and wellness. We’re embracing a more holistic style, focusing on improving mental, emotional, and social well-being. Self-care is no longer a luxury, but a necessity.

Several factors have likely contributed to this change, including the pandemic. While it was a devastating and anxiety-filled time for many, it also provided an opportunity for introspection, encouraging a slower, more deliberate pace of life. Along with the sourdough starters and various other crazes, the world totally shifted online, our connections and engagements became primarily digital, leading to a surge in popularity for online exercise classes.

I think I did my fair share of experimenting with different online classes with friends and family to get my movement and social engagement fix. Using wine bottles as weights and books as yoga blocks immediately springs to mind! Whatever the catalyst, I am fully here for it!

YOURGB x Tribe Yoga: A Personal Experience
Reformer Pilates

At YOURGB, we’re fortunate to have a fantastic perk: a monthly Tribe Yoga membership. This has significantly enhanced my work-life balance. Since joining YOURGB in 2023, I’ve become a regular Tribe Yoga attendee, along with many of my colleagues. It’s become an integral part of our company culture and community.

As someone who has always loved movement and the energy boost from exercise, attending classes at Tribe has changed the way I approach and care for my body and mind. I’ve become more attuned to my body’s needs and now make variety a priority in my exercise routine.

I love this quote from Novak Djokovic, I feel it resonates very strongly with me and particularly Tribe’s ethos:  “I’ve learned that it’s not about how hard you train, but how smart you train. And for me, mindfulness is a big part of that.”

Recently returning from maternity leave, I’ve found Tribe’s incredibly experienced instructors invaluable. They guided me through my pregnancy journey, and are now helping me rebuild my strength and confidence. I’ve even been able to attend some of the mum and baby barre classes that they offer! The variety of classes is exceptional, offering everything from yoga, pilates, reformer pilates, and barre, to more cardio-focused spin. My time spent at Tribe is my “me time”— a chance to breathe, escape the desk and the busy world of events, and reconnect with my body and mind. Prioritising daily movement has boosted my productivity and efficiency at work, and I’m incredibly grateful for the ability to move each day. Movement truly is a celebration of life.

“When you move with awareness, you’re not just exercising your body, you’re exercising your mind.” – Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa

Tribe | Reformer: A New Dimension

Since opening in 2015, Tribe Yoga has expanded, now with four studios in Edinburgh and one in London. At the New Town location, which is across from the YOURGB office (super handy!, they launched Reformer Pilates, late last year.

This has been a huge hit, both within the team and in the wider community. Tribe Reformer blends elements of Pilates, Yoga, and Functional Fitness, all performed on cutting-edge snazzy reformer machines.

They offer both foundation and advanced classes, and each instructor brings their unique style, making the classes dynamic and varied, all leaving you feeling strengthened, lengthened and powerful. But be quick, we recommend that you book in advance, as classes fill up rapidly!

Tribe Yoga offers an abundance of membership options and a variety of class times, making it accessible to everyone. As I’ve bravely (or perhaps foolishly!) signed up for a triathlon with my husband later this year, I will be taking all the help and guidance I can get!!

Here’s to finding your inner strength and embracing every challenge with grace and a smile!
